Getting ready for Operation: Anchorage

Bethesda has just released a patch for its post apocalyptic role playing game Fallout 3, fixing a lot of problems that could crop up during gameplay. The patch is now available for the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and the developers are saying that all gamers should get it and apply it as they are getting ready to play the first piece of downloadable content for Fallout 3, called Operation: Anchorage. You can get patch 1.1.0.35 from Softpedia.

Some of the most frequent complaints related to the Bethesda open world game have been related to crashes that seemed to appear at random times when playing. It seems that they were anything but random, with a lot of actions being singled out as producing crashes: Rad-Away use, entering VATS mode, spending too much time in the Pip Boy interface, getting a head shot in VATS while using the Railway Rifle. All of these have been fixed.

Other small glitches have also been eliminated. A player can now help the defenders of Big Town by powering up their robots, which was not initially possible and players are guaranteed to get the distress message for the Trouble on the Homefront quest without having to repeatedly pass in front of the entrance to Vault 101. It also seems that the developers have finally managed to prevent NPCs from dying by falling from great heights, which they tended to do in the initial release of the game. A complete list of the changes made on all platforms is available from the Bethesda site.

On January 27, players will be able to enjoy the first of the three DLC packs promised for Fallout 3. It will be called Operation: Anchorage and will introduce the player's character into a simulation dealing with the battle for Anchorage where American forces using power armor liberated Alaska from its Chinese occupiers.
