Video game developer and publisher Stardock has made the news recently because it has sold its Impulse digital distribution service to retail giant GameStop, but one of the leading developers working at the company says that the gaming division will soon be the source of big news.

Derek Paxton, who is working as producer on the Fallen Enchantress expansion for Elemental, has told Gaming Nexus, “Previously Stardock’s games team was a small but successful part of Stardock’s total business. Although Stardock had excellent management of the business side, the games side was less defined.”

Paxton says that the team he is leading is focused on making Fallen Enchantress a solid game on launch, erasing the bad memories that the launch of the original Elemental: War of Magic generated among the fans of the company.

Speaking about Fallen Enchantress, Paxton said that company boss Brad Wardell keeps raising expectations about it, stating, “At GDC he was targeting an 82 Metacritic score for Fallen Enchantress. Every day that number went up one. Last I heard Brad talking about it he was somewhere in the 90′s.”

The game is set to be launched at some point during the third quarter of the year and those who have pre-ordered Elemental will be able to get it for free in order to see how the game should really look like and play.

Other buyers will be able to get Fallen Enchantress at a discount.

Stardock has not said how much GameStop has paid for the acquisition of Impulse, which will open the digital distribution space for the company, but it seems that quite a bit of the sum will be directed towards the game development side of the business.

Stardock might use the extra resources to develop another Galactic Civilizations title or to create a whole new intellectual property.
