October 1 marked the start of the enrolment period for the United States’ controversial Obamacare, or the Affordable Care Act. However, experts warn that cybercriminals have already been exploiting the news since the first weeks of September.

Trend Micro researchers have come across several spam emails allegedly providing information on Medicare, medical insurance and enrollment to the new program.

However, recipients who click on the links contained in these emails are not taken to a legitimate website. Instead, they’re led to a bogus site that claims they can win iPads, iPhones and Macs if they complete a 30-second survey.

Of course, users don’t win anything. The scammers, on the other hand, can make a lot of money via affiliate programs.

Experts warn that such scams can also be used to trick people into handing over personal information. To avoid falling victim to such scams, don’t trust offers that sound too good to be true.
