At only 100 USD

Although Nokia has not confirmed yet the existence of an N79 smartphone, an N79 wannabe has already appeared on the Chinese market. When it comes to design and overall look, the handset is very similar to the real N79, which was spotted at the beginning of June, in two color versions (white and black).

When it comes to features, though, the fake N79 is not exactly worthy of an Nseries device - first of all because the phone only brings dual-band GSM connectivity (900 / 1800 MHz) with GPRS. Furthermore, the China-made N79 packs a 2.4 inch TFT display with 240 x 320 pixels and 260K colors (while a true Nseries would have a 16 million colors screen), a Symbian-like interface, Bluetooth, MP3 player, Video player, FM radio, WAP browser, MMS and SMS capabilities, pre-installed games, USB and a 256MB memory card to help the awfully small 1MB internal memory. Although the camera packed in the Chinese Nseries handset looks like being high-end, with Carl Zeiss optics, it's actually a VGA one, so it's highly probable that it can't offer good-quality photos.

The illegitimate N79 measures 110 x 48 x 15 millimeters, so we should expect that the real one will have about the same dimensions (judging by the size of the other Nseries candybars - N82 and N78).

The fake Nokia N79 is being sold across China for retail prices of around 690 CNY (100 USD or 68 Euros). This might be a good bargain if all you want is a handset which only looks like a N79, but if you want the real deal, wait for Nokia to come with it.

According to recent rumors, the Finnish giant should unveil two new Nseries smartphones next week, on August 25. The N79 is probably one of them, so let's wait until then and see what the real device can offer.
