After being zeroed all over the Internet for her CMA outburst, consecrated country singer Faith Hill issued a statement today saying the whole thing was nothing but a joke that was later twisted and misinterpreted. On Monday night, Nashville was the home of this year's edition of the Country Music Awards, a ceremony that gathered all the big names in the genre. As the presenters announced the nominees for the 'Female Vocalist of The Year', the camera focused on a backstage Faith Hill, looking pleased and assured that her name would be the one called out as the winner. When newcomer Carrie Underwood's name was called, Faith widely opened her arms as if expecting to hear herself called on stage; then, realizing that it was somebody else's, she yelled 'WHAT?' at the camera and apparently stormed off. The other nominees, Sara Evans, Gretchen Wilson and Martina McBride, offered to the camera their very best loser smiles, so Hill's behavior more than stood out. This morning, after the media and the Internet totally blasted her for being the worst loser in the history of awards ceremonies, Faith Hill issued a public statement that said the thing she did back stage was a practical joke. 'The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me. For this to become a focus of attention given the talent gathered is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving Female Vocalist of the Year', the multi-platinum singer said. The same story was also being told by Hill's manager who claimed that 'those who know her know that she's incapable of such actions. She was being playful while the nominations were being read and playful after'. Either way, the damage was done and the millions of viewers or users (who accessed the sites where the clip is shown) are no longer to be convinced of the contrary.
