Facebook has basically confirmed the move to its new headquarters in Menlo Park, California, a short distance away from its current location. The company has sent out invitations to the press for an event located at the city's municipal buildings.

Facebook has been rumored to be interested in the former Sun headquarters, a huge complex, big enough to enable the company to continue to grow at its current rate.

"The press event on Tuesday at Menlo Park City Hall is regarding a campus that will fit our long-term business needs," Facebook said when asked for more details. "We'll be sharing more information at that time," it added.

While it's not an 100 percent confirmation it's as close as it's going to get at this point.

Earlier this month, a rumor surfaced that Facebook was interested in buying the former Sun campus, which the company used before being acquired by Oracle.

It's sprawling complex, much larger than Facebook's current headquarters which have become inadequate. It's placed right next to the waterfront, in a somewhat remote location, but it's one of the few places big enough to house Facebook's ambitious growth that's still not that far away, about six miles from its current location.

Facebook has employees at several locations already since its current headquarters aren't enough for the over 2,000 employees the company has. It only moved at its main headquarters a couple of years ago, but it has been adding employees at a fast rate.

As Facebook plans to hire even more people it needed a new space. Even if its new headquarters offer plenty of room, the company has also bought a couple of other properties close by.

It's not the only big web company looking for a bigger home, Google bought one of the biggest buildings in Manhattan only a few weeks ago.
