Facebook for Windows 8.1 has just received a very important update, so in case you’re one of the many users running it right now, make sure you get the fresh version as soon as possible.

The new build of the app, which is being delivered to users via the integrated Windows Store, comes with a handful of new options, but also with essential bug fixes that are supposed to address many of the problems reported by users in the previous versions.

Facebook for Windows 8.1 now offers the option to turn off chat and thus track your timeline and browse profiles without being interrupted by a chatty friend. At the same time, the application now packs tools to create, join, and leave groups, but also dedicated parameters for editing privacy when changing specific settings of some of your posts.

If you’re using the app on a touch-capable device, Facebook for Windows 8.1 now supports double-tapping for zooming photos to the full resolution, as well as several accessibility enhancements that are meant to make the app more stable and improve the overall reliability on either desktops or tablets.

Black and white high-contrast modes are also available in case you’re having trouble working with the app and so are narrower margins for snap view to show more content.

The Metro version of Facebook is a Windows 8.1-exclusive app and comes with a touch-optimized interface that makes it the right companion for users who have already made the move to Microsoft’s modern platform and purchased a tablet running this particular OS.

The app was launched in October 2013 together with Windows 8.1 and was one of the most anticipated products on modern Windows, especially because only a handful of clients were available in the store to allow users to post to Facebook.

Of course, the application comes with support not only for the desktop versions of Windows 8.1, but also for Windows RT 8.1, which means that those who purchased a tablet running the ARM flavor of the operating system, such as the Surface RT, can install it as well.

Facebook has pledged to provide more updates for the app on a regular basis, so make sure that you’re always running the latest version, especially in case you’re struggling to deal with bugs.

The new build is automatically delivered through the Windows Store, but you can also download Facebook for Windows 8.1 manually to get it on your computer without waiting.
