Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0 Beta Now Available

A new application is now available for download for users of a BlackBerry smartphone, namely Facebook for BlackBerry version 2.0, now only in a beta flavor through the BlackBerry Beta Zone.

The new iteration of the mobile app comes with a wide range of enhancements included into the mix, one of the most important ones being the added support for BlackBerry Device Software v.5.0.

But this is not all, as the new release of the application also comes with various other new features inside, as well as with a series of performance enhancements, and more.

One of the new features the application comes to BlackBerry smartphones with would be the ability to view Mutual Friends and Friends List, so that one can easily discover common friends with another user.

One can see a user’s Friends List in the Profile, as long as he/she allows for it.

Facebook Chat Enhancements is another addition to the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones 2.0 Beta.

“While chatting with your friends, you will now know when they’re typing a message by the visual cue of “is typing a message”. As well, you can filter your Online Contacts to quickly find a specific friend and start a Chat message,” RIM explains in a recent blog post.

Users will also enjoy integration with native BlackBerry smartphone apps as soon as the new flavor of the Facebook application would be installed on their devices.

“You can now click on PINs, phone numbers and email addresses that are displayed on Wall posts, messages on the Info tab, and either perform the respective action (e.g. place a call) or save the information to your BlackBerry Contacts application,” RIM explains.

As for the performance enhancements the new Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones v2.0 comes with, we can count improved Facebook Chat connection and Online Contacts list loading time, as well as consistent Chat message delivery notifications.

When scrolling through the News Feed, the cursor will no longer disappear, the said blog post continues.

“To download the latest beta version of Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones v2.0, you need to register to become a BlackBerry Beta Zone member. Please note that you must reside in one of the countries listed here in order to participate in the beta,” RIM notes.
