Facebook’s mobile client for Android devices is said to be up for some major changes, with the company behind it set to enable the software to update in the background, without bothering users each time a new version arrives.

According to a recent post on Liliputing, Facebook has already started to push out a new flavor of the mobile software to enable these silent updates, which will be automatically downloaded over Wi-Fi connections, and won’t arrive through the Google Play Store.

While Facebook did not offer a formal announcement on the matter, The Verge found a mention of such updates on the company’s support page, though not fully detailed.

“We're working quickly to improve Facebook for Android and want to make sure everyone is using the best version of our app. Updates will download when you are on Wi-Fi, and they won't rely on your data plan,” Facebook notes there.

When I saw this update on my phone, I thought it was a virus as this is often how viruses are loaded onto PC's. And because I have not received any official word from facebook that this would happen, I'm not going to install the update.
