It was launched to get feedback even earlier in the development

Facebook already has a beta version of its application on Google Play Store, but it appears that this is not enough to get Android users what they've been asking for for years: a light, simple to use application.

This is probably the main reason that the company has decided to kick off another testing program for Android platform, but this time, users will be offered much earlier versions of Facebook for testing purposes.

In order to receive feedback even earlier in the development process, Facebook has just announced the introduction of Facebook for Android alpha testing program.

As Facebook points out, “alpha is not for the faint of heart – features will come and go, crashes will be introduced and fixed, and designs may go through many iterations.

“Because we are continually testing and experimenting on alpha, the Facebook for Android app that alpha users test will look and behave differently than what ultimately gets shipped in a general release.”

So, those who want to help out with bringing a much better Facebook application on Android operating system can join the alpha testing program starting today.

Keep in mind that feedback on stability and features, as well as any other performance issue you might encounter, is of utmost importance.

To join the alpha program, Android users will have to follow a few steps, but be aware that signing up for this testing program means you won't be receiving beta versions of Facebook. More details on how to join Facebook alpha testing program are available on its dedicated page.

Those who think the alpha version is not for them and wish to go back to receiving beta versions of Facebook should follow the procedure described below:

“Because of the way Google Play works, if you sign up for both pre-release programs you will receive the alpha version. If you later decide alpha is not for you and want to be back on the general release, you can stop testing by clicking "Leave the test" in the Play store.”
