The official Twitter and Facebook accounts of the Qatar Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims at making Qatar a leader in innovative education and research, were hacked last Friday by the members of the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA).

The hackers targeted the organization as a form of protest against the fact that Qatar supports the bloodshed in Syria, HackRead informs. The hacktivists also published a video showing that the accounts were compromised at some point.

The accounts were suspended a few hours after being hijacked, but currently both of them have been restored.

“Recently, Qatar Foundation’s social media channels were compromised. We have now addressed this issue, and we thank our online community for their patience and support‬,” Qatar Foundation representatives wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

Around one week ago, the Syrian Electronic Army managed to hijack the “Photo” Twitter account of AFP.
