Facebook, the so-popular social networking website, is currently working on a major update which will bring several improvements to the service. One of the most important updates is related to the security of its users because Facebook wants to make the profiles more spam-resistant and reduce the amount of spam messages delivered to Facebook members. Moreover, thanks to user feedback, the Facebook administrators find out that most of the registered members consider the service to be loading pretty slowly, so an improvement in this perspective is also expected.

In addition, it seems like the update was required by the web trends as more and more users become interested in social networking and sharing multimedia content over the web, including here pictures, videos and music.

"We want to make sure it is easy for people to push and pull information in the form of bite-size content rather quickly. Because we want more content to be shared and created we needed to make sure the profile became simpler and cleaner. When you look at the profile today, it is actually a little cluttered," Chamath Palihapitiya, Facebook vice president of marketing, said in a press conference according to AFP.

The Facebook developer will get the chance to test the new Facebook profiles starting this week in order to modify and create new applications that will fit the upcoming profiles. The rest of Facebook's users will get access to the new profiles in the upcoming weeks as part of a beta program prepared by the social networking website.

"We want users' information to be private, secure and respected. They should be able to share information, but on their terms. As long as that happens, we are open to working with any third party," the Facebook official told the same source mentioned above.

In case you're one of the millions Facebook-addicted users, you can find more information about the coming update on the Facebook Profiles Preview page. Moreover, you can access this Overview, which shows multiple pictures of the new profiles.
