Windows 8.1 was officially launched more than one month ago, but users are still experiencing issues when trying to set up specific features of the operating system.

This time, we’ve learned that some 8.1 adopters are having a hard time trying to connect to Facebook and Twitter using the People app.

While dedicated Facebook and Twitter apps are already available for download right now, some Windows 8.1 users prefer to rely on the built-in People tool to connect with friends on these two particular social networks.

And still, the application fails to work properly, with many users claiming that it fails to connect to the configured Facebook and Twitter accounts.

“This is a problem that has been happening for some months now. I have tried every workaround posted. Some things were a brief fix and some just didn't work at all. I thought that maybe with the 8.1 update, things would have been fixed but to my surprise, it wasn't. Still the same thing. I am able to see updates on the live tile while in metro UI but when I go into the actual app... nothing,” one user explained on Microsoft’s Community forums.

At the first glance, none of the standard workaround seems to be working, as some affected consumers tried not only to delete Facebook and Twitter accounts, but also to refresh the device and reboot it several times.

Microsoft hasn’t yet issued a statement on this, but as it usually happens with bugs affecting the operating system, the company is most likely looking into reports, so expect more details soon.

In the meantime, you can always have a look at the dedicated Twitter and Facebook clients that seem to work just fine on both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Support for desktops and tablets is also being offered.
