Beware of Facebook pages that promise free iPhone 5s devices! Experts have spotted a scheme that promises 200 free phones.

The scam identified by Hoax Slayer is hosted on a Facebook page called “Apple Iphone’s.” The bogus posts read something like this:

“We have got 200 pieces of Iphone 5s that can’t be sold because they have been unsealed. Therefore we are giving them away for free. Want one of them? Just SHARE this photo & LIKE Our Page and we will choose 200 people completely at random on 15th November 2013 60 winners selected still 140 remaining SHARE! COMMENT(done) and you could be the next one.”

As always, there’s no real contest. Scammers are promising the free iPhones in an effort to trick unsuspecting users into helping them increase the value of the bogus Apple page.

Once these pages are liked by a large number of Facebook members, the cybercrooks can sell them on the underground market or repurpose them to promote other shady websites or products.

If you come across such pages, the best thing to do is report them. If you’ve already shared the post, delete it from your timeline.
