Ahead of its big F8 developers' conference, Facebook is unveiling a redesigned News Feed, arguably the most important portion of the site. The new News Feed has been revamped completely. The Top Stores and Recent Updates are now rolled into one dynamic list, with a mix of the two depending on how frequently you visit the site.

The change is subtle, but it could have a great effect on the way you use the News Feed and Facebook in general.

"When you pick up a newspaper after not reading it for a week, the front page quickly clues you into the most interesting stories," Facebook's Mark Tonkelowitz wrote.

"Now, News Feed will act more like your own personal newspaper. You won't have to worry about missing important stuff," he announced.

"All your news will be in a single stream with the most interesting stories featured at the top," he said.

"If you haven't visited Facebook for a while, the first things you'll see are top photos and statuses posted while you've been away. They're marked with an easy-to-spot blue corner," he added.

This way, the News Feed will always have the stuff that's of interest to you whether you visit the site several times a day or once a week.

If you come back often, you'll see the Top Stories from the past few hours, the time you've been away. If you don't, you'll see a longer list of important updates from the past few days.

Meanwhile, if new stories come in while you're browsing the News Feed, you'll see a notification that there are updates waiting for you, at the top of the feed. Clicking on the "See stories" link will display the newer ones ahead of the Top Stories.

Facebook has also improved the way photos are displayed in the News Feed, the thumbnails are larger and photos are tiled together if there are more of them in a post.
