The Facebook Photos feature is huge. We've known this for years now and, if anything, it has gotten bigger since. And 'huge' is starting to become less useful when describing Facebook Photos, the feature is now five to six time "more used" than all of the similar products, combined.

The photo product that we have is maybe five or six times more used than every other product on the web — combined,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at a developer's garage event at the Facebook headquarters, according to TechCrunch.

The key to all this, Facebook says is social. The site admits that it doesn't have the best photo sharing feature around, technically, but says that doesn't matter.

That's because all people really want is the social experience. And that's true, to a degree, because all of their friends are already there, it makes sense to share the photos on the social network.

But that's not necessarily a question of 'social' feature as it is a matter of convenience. Sharing photos with their Facebook friends on anything else that the site itself implies several additional steps, and nobody wants to do that.

And they'll put up with small photos, inflexibility, and even crashes because of this. Whatever the reason, Facebook Photos is big and it's getting bigger.

Zuckerberg doesn't really specify what he means by "used," the number of photos stored, the number of people using the feature, page views, etc.

But the fact is, Facebook Photos is probably the largest, by a fair margin, in any of those metrics.

The plan now, at least in the long run, is to do this in other areas. Facebook wants to leverage its users' social interactions to enter verticals such as travel, e-commerce, music and others.
