A Mac-native Facebook Messenger application is being developed, the social networking giant has confirmed, with no release schedule set for the time being.

According to The Verge, “a Mac version is on the way, but the company declined to give us a timeframe for that one.” Facebook Messenger already has a presence on Apple platforms - the iOS application originally released in August last year.

The Facebook Messenger desktop app will allow Mac users to chat with their friends without logging into Facebook.com in a web browser. The functionality is already available in apps like iChat, Adium, and other IM clients that support Jabber. However, a dedicated app from the people at Facebook will be much more appreciated.
