It allows users to see who has read their message and who hasn't

Facebook has just pushed another major update for its Messenger application for Android devices. The new version brings improved messaging features and the option to see who read your message and who hasn't.

However, the developers claim that users will be able to text everyone for free, using their existing data plans, which is kind of controversial.

Basically, the application now has the option to send SMS notifications of sent messages to people who don't have Facebook Messenger installed on their phones, but they are part of the user's friend list with the mobile phone number included on their profile.

There's also some sort of typing indicator that allows users to see when their friend are replying to their messages. Obviously some bug fixes have been included as well.

Facebook Messenger 1.7 is now available as a free download via Google Play store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.2 and up.
