Last week Facebook announced it would bring its Messenger application on Windows Phone platform soon, but did not offer any details on the exact availability of the instant messaging service.

We also reported several days ago that Windows Phone 8.1 would arrive with a new Facebook Messenger, which will run separately and will not be integrated within the Facebook application.

That would mean Windows Phone users will not be able to check all messages in the same place, but the advantages of having a separate Facebook Messenger should overcome the disadvantages of not having all messages grouped together.

In fact, there are rumors that Facebook Messenger would be preloaded on most of Windows Phone 8.1 handsets, which will allow users to set up their accounts easier and faster.

Although we thought Facebook Messenger will not be available for Microsoft’s mobile platform until Windows Phone 8.1 gets released, it looks like the application has just been launched on Windows Phone Store.

Facebook Messenger is only compatible with Windows Phone 8 devices and comes with most of the features already available on other platforms such as iOS and Android, with one exception: it does not provide voice features.

Developers also confirm that the application now allows users to check their messages without having to open Facebook, which wasn’t possible prior to launching the Facebook Messenger.

Speaking of which, Facebook Messenger has been directly developed by Facebook, not Microsoft. The Facebook application for Windows Phone continues to be improved by Microsoft though.

Furthermore, the application provides users with the option to add stickers to their conversations, as well as send photos. “Group conversations” is another feature offered by Facebook Messenger, along with the option to share your location with the people you know.

Facebook Messenger has integrated its notifications within Windows Phone so users will be notified each time they receive a message. Keep in mind, though, that notifications can be turned off when you need it.

The application also allows users to see when their messages have been read or who is using Messenger and who is active on Facebook at any time while on the move.

Obviously, Facebook Messenger works with a data plan, so don’t rely only on Wi-Fi network when using the application, unless you turn it off completely when you get out of Wi-Fi range.

Facebook addicts who own a compatible device can now download Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone 8 for free via Softpedia.
