The update for Facebook Messenger that we reported on about two weeks ago is now rolling out worldwide. Developers announced in late October a major update will be released on Facebook Messenger, but no exact launch date has been provided at that time.

Today, the update popped up on Google Play Store, so those who already have Facebook Messenger installed on their Android device can automatically download the latest version.

As expected, the update brings a completely new design and custom sounds for Facebook Messenger. In addition, users will now be able to message people in their phone book, not just to Facebook friends.

It's also easier to add new contacts after the latest update, as you only need to enter a phone number to record a new contact onto the phone book.

You can now download Facebook Messenger for Android 3.1.1 for free via Softpedia. Keep in mind the application should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.1 and up.
