Facebook, owner of two of the most popular instant messengers for mobiles, WhatsApp and Messenger, has just released a new one that is meant to make it easier for users to make phone calls.

The new Hello application for Android devices works just like WhatsApp's voice calling features and allows users to make and take phone calls via Wi-Fi or cellular connection.

The application has been developed by the team behind the Messenger application and combines information from Facebook with the contact info on users' phones.

The new app allows users to see who's calling them, but Hello also includes options to block unwanted calls and search for people and places on Facebook.

“Billions of calls are made everyday on mobile phones and people often have very little information about who’s calling them. Today we are starting to test Hello, a new app built by the Messenger team.

“Hello connects with Facebook so you can see who’s calling, block unwanted calls and search for people and places,” said Andrea Vaccari, product manager, Facebook.

Make calls within Facebook's environment

Also, Hello can also automatically block calls from numbers that have been blocked by a lot of other people. You just need to check who blocked who.

It also provides users with the latest information about their contacts, including their profile pictures and birthdays. You can even open a Facebook profile or Page within Hello app.

Obviously, you will be able to call, text, add and edit contacts, just like you would do on your smartphone. Basically, Facebook wants to offer its fans the possibility to make and take calls within the same environment they like so much.

You can now download Hello for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 4.0 and up.
