Apparently poking is so popular among Facebook aficionados that it deserved its own dedicated iOS app. Facebook has just launched the official poking application for all iDevices running iOS 5.1 (and newer versions), enabling everyone to jab their friends with a message, photo, or video.

“Poke your friends to share fun moments or just say hello,” says Facebook, promoting its latest release for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users.

You can poke a friend with a message, photo or video, and choose how long they can see it via a few simple taps in the settings menu. Users can press and hold to see pokes from friends, disclose their poking location and, in typical Facebook manner, see when their friends take screenshots.

Requirements include iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad, as well as iOS 5.1 or later. The app is fully optimized for the iPhone 5’s Retina display.
