With a solid lead over the social network which isn't seeing as much growth as it used to

Google has managed to maintain its top spot as the most visited website in the US, at least according to Nielsen numbers. Facebook comes in at number two, but still has some way to go before challenging Google, since it just overtook Yahoo.

Google amassed an average of 153 million US visitors per month in 2011, more than any other websites in the world. Only 137 million visited Facebook in the same period of time while 130 million visited Yahoo.

The data covers January to October 2011, so it's not for the entire year. What's more, it's the average monthly data, so individual months may have seen smaller or larger audiences.

What's more, the top 10 put together by Nielsen only looks at US 'brands,' so it may not be an exact top 10 most visited sites in the US.

Then again, Americans don't really care for anything that's not from their country and, truth be told, all big websites and web companies are from the US.

Microsoft, through its many web services, MSN, Live, Bing got almost 116 million people to come by, on average, each month.

The top 10 doesn't group individual sites, or 'brands,' by owner, so YouTube is listed as the fifth most visited site, with almost 107 million unique visitors each month.

Following YouTube, Microsoft, which is listed separately from Bing, Live and all the rest, got almost 84 million visitors per month. Of course, just like Google and YouTube, many people that visited Bing visited Microsoft as well, so there is a lot of overlap.

Completing the list are AOL, with 75 million visitors, Wikipedia with 62 million, Apple with almost 62 million and Ask with 61 million. Overall, nothing incredibly surprising or revealing. What's more, few of the sites in the top 10 are actually moving, one way or another, except Facebook and even the social network is finding it hard to continue to grow in the US.
