Facebook has just announced the addition of a new feature to its mobile and desktop applications, which is meant to induce some nostalgia to its users.

The new feature is called “On This Day” and it will allow Facebook users to see posts from current date in past years, which means that you will be able to see what you've been doing exactly one year ago if you have a Facebook activity on that day.

“On This Day” will be available from Facebook's bookmarks menu, search, News Feed stories, or opt-in notifications on iOS, Android, mobile web and desktop.

Facebook's Product Manager Jonathan Gheller explains exactly how the “On This Day” feature works for users.

First of all, this feature will only work individually, which means that if you see past status updates, photo, posts from friends and other things that you have shared or been tagged in from one or more years ago, only you will see this content.

Only you will be able to see older posts, but you can share them with your friends

However, your friends will be able to see this content as well, but only if you decided to share it with them, otherwise this nostalgia inducing feature will only affect you.

It's also worth mentioning that you will be able to choose to subscribe to notifications, which means that you will be alerted when you have posts that you can look back on. Additionally, you will also be able to edit and delete old posts, as well as decide to share your memories with friends.

According to Facebook, the new “On This Day” feature has been in tests for quite a while and it will be rolled out globally on web and mobile over the next few days.

Keep in mind that the new feature introduced by Facebook will be available for free, so you won't have to pay anything to benefit from it.
