Recent rumors said hacker extraordinaire George Hotz, also known as Geohot, had been hired at Facebook. Multiple sources now confirm that the iOS jailbreaker and PlayStation hacker is, indeed, working for the giant social networking company.

Geohot is probably best known for his iOS hacks - blackra1n, purplera1n, and limera1n.

While not necessarily in competition with the iPhone Dev Team, Geohot has been able to beat the famous jailbreak group at releasing hacks for iOS community on multiple occasions.

Most recently, Geohot gained even more notoriety for getting sued by Sony, the company whose PlayStation 3 console had been compromised by Hotz via firmware hacks.

His hack, also regarded as a jailbreak, opened up a previously inaccessible ‘other-OS’ on the console which led to other hacks that enabled PS3 consoles to run pirated software.

This prompted Sony to sue and while the hacker appears to be getting off easy, he is reportedly not out of the woods just yet.

Apparently somewhere between his rap video and his settlement with Sony out of court, Geohot nabbed himself a job at Facebook, the hugely popular social networking service and website with more than 600 million active users.

According to reports by TechUnwrapped and Techmeme’s Gabe Rivera, Geohot joined Facebook as a software engineer in May.

Hotz himself reportedly confirmed the move earlier this month June 17th.

FaceBook, for its part, is reportedly working on a secret project “Trojan” or “Spartan” described by the tech media as a planned attack on Apple’s App Store.

Geohot may or may not be a team member on the project, but Facebook is also known to be actively developing a native iPad application.

According to the New York Times, Facebook has been working on the app for nearly a year.

One person who works at the company said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO and founder, has been actively involved in the project, overseeing design decisions and other key features of the application.
