Today's social networks have an amazing influence over their users, the number of the registered members being absolutely huge, somewhere near millions. The
most recent proof is a water fight set up by a Facebook user who managed to gather no less than 350 other members in the United Kingdom. The only problem is that the Facebook fans simply destroyed the Millennium Square Garden, causing damages of thousands of pounds.

According to Wikipedia, the construction of the Millennium Square cost 12 million pounds and has always been regarded as a symbol of the partnership with Durban, the hometown of Nelson Mandela.

The Leeds City Council said that videos and photos of the incident, many of them being available online, will be sent to the police in order to be investigated.

"Our parks staff were distraught when they discovered the wreckage. Frankly I'm appalled at the total disregard for people's ongoing enjoyment of this beautiful city centre oasis. To destroy years of careful cultivation for a couple of hours of so-called 'fun' is unforgivable. We will be pulling out all the stops to make sure everything is put right. It will stretch parks staff to the limit when they are already working hard on this year's Chelsea garden and the bedding and container planting for the city's summer displays," Cllr John Procter, member of the council said.

It's interesting to note that users who took part at the water fight don't feel guilty and see the event as a tradition. Moreover, they consider the destruction of the Millennium Square Garden really worth it because it was "fun". Here is a statement of a user who said he participated at the water fight and commented a YouTube clip showing the event:

"I was at the waterfight, it was great fun and I didn't see people get hurt as you would in other organized events. Yes there was damage in the garden, but the waterfight has become a tradition which I love dearly. As far as trying to speak for all the taxpayers, I am a tax payer, amongst a British government that considered scrapping the 10p tax (a complete class exploitation scheme) and have caused more damage than in this event by concerning themselves with a war that didn't concern them," the user nicknamed baztian160 wrote.
