Facebook continues to expand its ad options, even as its stock price tumbles ever down, in a concentrated effort to drive up revenue. The latest addition is an important one, if only for its symbolism, Facebook is now offering search result ads.
These ads will show up among the regular results for Facebook queries and will direct users to a page, app or post.
The ads are rather prominently placed, above most of the organic results. Facebook search has never been very good and it's not a very used feature. Whether it's not that good because people don't use it or people don't use because it's not that good is hard to say.
Still, anything on Facebook sees a huge amount of traffic, so sponsored results should be an interesting option for advertisers. For now, these ads can only point to a page inside the site.
