Facebook Connect Bug Breaks Major Websites

For a while, users were redirected to Facebook error page

From time to time, we get a reminder of just how powerful Facebook is or, rather, just how ingrained it is into most of the web.

For a short while yesterday, many major websites, most websites that used Facebook login integration in fact, were affected by a bug which would redirect users to a Facebook error page.

This made the sites unusable and, since a lot of sites use Facebook Connect, a lot of people were affected. Facebook Connect enables users to log into Facebook on whatever site they're on but adds a few more features compared to a simple login integration.

The problem was quickly resolved, but it highlighted just how interconnected the web has become.

"For a short period of time, there was a bug that redirected people logging in with Facebook from third party sites to Facebook.com. The issue was quickly resolved, and Login with Facebook is now working as usual," said after the problem was fixed.
