Facebook has made it official, the company is moving soon to its new headquarters at the former Sun campus. As the company grows, it needs more space for its employees, but it looks like the new buildings will be big enough for the foreseeable future, or at least that's what Facebook believes.

The move has been rumored for quite a while and was essentially confirmed last week when Facebook sent out invitations to a press event in Menlo Park, where the new headquarters will be located.

The huge complex is made up of 11 buildings and sprawls 57 acres. It can hold 3,600 people for now and has 3,700 parking spots, but Facebook says it can be expanded for more than that.

Since Facebook has a no-office policy, more people could be packed together in the same space. At its current main headquarters, everyone sits on one giant room, desk to desk, with no cubicles or offices. Zuckerberg himself occupies the same space.

Facebook will be leasing the building, but has the option to buy it after five years. It plans to renovate the place as it wants it to be an open work environment. The first employees will start moving in by summer but the it won't be until 2012 until everyone is there.

It currently has 1,400 employees in the region and 2,000 worldwide. Everyone in the Bay area will be working at the new headquarters. Still, its current location is leased until 2013 and it won't be vacating it completely.

But Facebook has also bought an additional 22 acres of land nearby that used to belong to GM. It doesn't have any immediate plans for that location but said it bought it in case it needs to expand further.
