14 DAY TRIAL // A woman running a breastfeeding support group on Facebook has been banned from the website on several occasions.
Kristy Kemp of Sacramento advocates the mothers' right to feed their babies in public on her “Breastfeeding/Mamma Talk” account.
The page has received over 4,800 likes as of now, and supporters post photos of themselves on a regular basis.
One such photo got Kemp locked out of her account for 24 hours, while a second one prompted a three-day suspension.
“I was outraged. I was shocked. [...] It’s not right. I’m trying to do good for mothers and I’m getting kicked off for posting pictures of the most beautiful act a mother can do her for kid. It’s not right,” Kemp expresses.
The photos have also been removed, citing Facebook policy violations. However, a complaint to site administrators went unanswered.
Company reps did apologize when contacted by staff at Fox 40, and they mentioned that the suspension and deletion of the photos were implemented by mistake.
“The removal was an error and the company apologizes,” they say.
Kemp started the group to fight discrimination, which she feels on account of trying to feed her child in public on an everyday basis. She describes being asked to move the nursing to a less public place such as a restroom.
“I don’t expect people to eat their lunch in the bathroom. I would never tell someone to eat their lunch in the bathroom, so I don’t know why I was told to feed my baby in the bathroom,” Kemp argues.
The case is reminiscent to that of Gina Crosley-Corcoran, who incurred multiple bans over posting photos featuring “inappropriate” content while aiming to “to normalize breastfeeding on Facebook.”
A Facebook spokesperson issued a statement about not accepting shots of exposed private parts on their site.
