Microsoft and Facebook have just announced the immediate availability of Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone 8 devices after the application was teased last week at Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade fair.

The application is fully developed by Facebook, unlike the standard Facebook application for Windows Phone which is designed by Microsoft.

In fact, Microsoft is developing two Facebook versions for Windows Phone: one that is available for the general public via Windows Phone Store, and a beta version that can be downloaded by those who wish to test new features and improvements Microsoft plans to bring to the stable iteration after a while.

Today, Microsoft quietly released a small update for the beta version of Facebook for Windows Phone. Even though the developer did not issue an official changelog for this update, the folks over at WMPoweruser report some bug fixes have been added in the latest version.

Lots of Facebook Beta users have been reporting random crashes while using the application, but the recent update seems to fix these bug crashes.

We’re not certain what other improvements Microsoft has added, but it’s enough those who have the beta version installed on their devices can now use it without having to experience often crashes.

Those who wish to try it out can now download Facebook Beta for Windows Phone 5.2.2.2 via Windows Phone Store free of charge. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 7.5 and up.
