Popular social network service Facebook has just announced that it has launched a Facebook app for non-smartphones. The application will be available starting this week for 9 network operators and can be used without paying any data charges.

Facebook for feature-phones is the result of the collaboration between Facebook and Snaptu, the company behind the application with the same name, which provides users access to multiple social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Picasa, as well as blogs, local guides and news.

Furthermore, the application is compatible with more than 2,500 devices from various brands such as Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, LG and other manufacturers.

It provides a better Facebook experience, including an easier-to-navigate home screen, contact synchronization and fast scrolling of photos and friend updates.

According to Facebook, 14 mobile operators are currently offering free data access when using the new Facebook mobile application during the first 90 days after the launch.

Starting today, the application is available from these mobile operators: Dialog (Sri Lanka), Life (Ukraine), Play (Poland), StarhHub (Singapore), STC (Saudi Arabia), Three (Hong Kong), Tunisiana (Tunisia), Viva (Dominican Republic) and Vodafone (Romania).

Another 5 mobile operators will provide access to the application without charging any data transfer, in the coming days: Mobilicity (Canada), Reliance (India), Telcel (Mexico), TIM (Brazil) and Vivacom (Bulgaria).

Facebook stated that it would make its mobile application for feature-phones available through more carriers in other countries, in the coming months.

The mobile application can be downloaded from m.fb.snaptu.com/f and is accessible from any network operator, but it will work only for the carriers mentioned above.

Users with different carriers will get a message where it is said that the application is not supported by the operator and that they are advised to download Snaptu's application if they want to use Facebook.
