Hackers said to be from Tunisia and Gaza have compromised the details of 13,000 Israeli Facebook users. The data has been leaked online.

According to Israel’s Channel 10, the owners of the accounts have confirmed that their accounts have been compromised. The attackers are said to have used the stolen credentials to modify the profiles of victims.

The hackers, part of a group called Demons of Hack, claimed the attack was part of a protest against Israel’s occupation of Palestine.

The most likely scenario is that the Facebook credentials have been obtained through phishing attacks, not by compromising the systems of the social network.

Facebook representatives have told Channel 10 that they’re continually working on making sure that their customers are safe, and advised impacted users to change their passwords.
