Error states “Facebook could not be downloaded at this time”

Afraid not to lose any more users for the weekend, Facebook has seemingly pulled the latest update for iOS customers following widespread complaints of crashes and hangs.

After releasing update 6.7 and subsequently 6.7.1 to address issues reported by the iOS user base, Facebook and/or Apple decided it was time to pull the plug.

Users commenting on Softpedia, as well as on Apple’s own forums are confirming that versions 6.7 and 6.7.1 are crippled updates that render the iOS Facebook client unusable.

“Tried to update the new facebook app for my iphone 4 and it just froze!!! I tried switching phone on and off and again nothing,” writes one of our readers. “I then deleted the app off my phone and tried to reinstall and again it froze. Its been over 4 hrs!!!”

“I'm having trouble updating from 6.7 to 6.7.1. It simply will not update and I have to go back to the update and stop it to be able to open Facebook again,” another writes. “As of right now, Facebook seems to be working the same as before I tried to do the update.

Countless others are sharing a similar story, and that includes hundreds of users visiting the Apple forums to complain.

We’ve tried to download Facebook 6.7.1 on one of our iPhone 5 test units and, sure enough, the update has been pulled from the App Store (either at Apple’s will, or Facebook’s).

The App Store serves up an error that states “'Facebook' could not be downloaded at this time.”

The Social Network remains mum on the matter, despite thousands of customers complaining on the web.

Editor’s note The latest update on Facebook’s Twitter account dates October 18 at the time of this reporting. It would have been thoughtful to have a representative steal a minute of their precious time and write a 140-character clarification on the matter. They have 13 million followers tracking that feed, for Pete’s sake.

Update: Facebook 6.7.1 is now available for download again, seemingly bug free.
