The dedicated Facebook application for Apple’s iOS devices has received an update that adds a map view for Places, the ability to check in to events, the ability to unfriend from the device, an improved news feed, and improved notifications UI.

“Facebook for iPhone makes it easy to stay connected and share information with friends,” say the people behind the world’s most popular social networking service.

“Use your iPhone to start a conversation with Facebook Chat, check your friends' latest photos and status updates, look up a phone number, or upload your own mobile photos to Facebook while on the go,” goes the official description of the Facebook app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.

You’d think that people using it would love the iOS app even more after learning that version 3.4 brings the following new enhancements:

What's New in Version 3.4

- Added Map View for Places - Added the ability to Check in to Events that you're attending - Added the ability to unfriend from the phone - Improved News Feed - Improved notifications UI

But no. Those who’ve updated and used the app on their various iOS devices are disgruntled at some of the issues remaining unaddressed, such as the “grainy, out of focus full screen display” on the iPad, the inability to tag friends in statuses or "like" comments, and more.

One particular reviewer on iTunes says, “Really there's more to fix than the ‘check in’ feature, not everybody wants people to stalk them!”

This user proposes other enhancements for what she would consider a serious update to the Facebook app.

Those include the ability to tag friends in status using the @, sharing links, “so they don't post as your status,” the ability to "Like" a comment under a status, and “notify when someone writes back in chat/ doesn't log you off when you switch apps.”
