On Tuesday, Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has made available for download new flavors of the dedicated Facebook applications for its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet PC, as well as for the smartphones that run under BlackBerry Device Software v5.0 and newer.

Both applications were pushed to the BlackBerry App World as version 2.0, and should be available for download from here for the tablet PC, and from here for the BlackBerry smartphones.

The new Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook tablet v2.0 comes with a nice range of features, the most important of which would include the addition of Facebook Places and Facebook Event viewing into the mix.

At the same time, we should note that the new flavor of the mobile software offers users the possibility to view ‘Likes,’ and also comes with a series of privacy control on status updates.

Through Facebook Places, users can easily share their location and what they are doing with their friends. Moreover, users will be provided with info on the places nearby, as well as with the possibility to view comments on them.

Facebook Event Viewing enables users easily stay on top of what is coming in their social lives, including events and birthdays. Moreover, it will deliver notifications and offer specific details on events, such as time, place, guest list and RSVP.

Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook tablet v2.0 will also show the name of friends who liked posts. Tapping their names will launch their profile pages.

Moreover, the new application version was meant to enhance the control users have over who sees various updates they post on Facebook through click the lock icon in the lower-right corner of the status publisher.

As for the new Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones v2.0 application, it also brings appealing new features into the mix, including a new user interface, or integrated Facebook Chat.

The mobile application also comes with an enhanced news feed, with Redefine Notifications, and with a new Profile interface, so that users can enjoy a better browsing experience while moving through Wall, Info, and Photos tab.

“For those of you who haven’t had a chance to check out Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones v2.0 in BlackBerry Beta Zone, you’re in for a real treat with this next generation of the Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones app,” RIM notes in a blog post.

“This is our most significant release since the initial launch more than three years ago. The Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones v2.0 app features a complete user interface makeover and is packed full of new features that we’re sure our 38+ million active users are going to love.”
