Wonder why Apple is ever so confident that the next Mac it plans to roll out will set the bar yet again? Well, it’s because it most likely will. FaceTime on the company’s new MacBook Pro computers is one solid example.

We got Apple’s new 15-incher last week.

Equipped with a 2.2 GHz Intel Sandy Bridge processor, Thunderbolt I/O, AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics, 4 gigs of RAM and a built in HD cam, the laptop knocks the socks off even some rather new Mac Pro workstations.

From iPhoto and iMovie to Logic Studio and Final Cut Pro, Apple’s new MacBook Pro is the elegant way to lead your digital life.

But if there’s something you want to treat yourself to when you first boot it up, it’s FaceTime!

Just punch in your friends’ Apple IDs and call them. When they answer, your screen becomes a window to their world. What they see, you see. What you see, they see on their device.

They may call you from an iPad, or iPod touch. You may call them back, or ring someone up on their iPhone without paying a dime. Everyone stays visual and you won’t miss a frame if you have a decent WiFi connection.

In fact, you may never want to go back to your Windows PC web cam.

Before you place or answer any calls, though, check and see if you need to trim your nose hair. It might just show.

The HD camera on the new MacBook Pro ups the ante on video chatting standards, and we can only hope Apple opens up FaceTime to Windows, Linux and other platforms one day.

Introduced with iOS 4 last summer, FaceTime has become the reference for cross-platform video chatting.

For 99 cents, you can download the app from the company’s Mac App Store and let everyone reach you by your Apple ID at all times.
