Yesterday, the first hearing of the trial that is meant to determine where the late glamour girl, Anna Nicole Smith, will be buried took place and Anna's long time friend, attorney and lover, Howard K. Stern got to tell the judge his side of the story. Sure, this is not something new for him, since he sold the exclusive rights to 'his story' a few hours after the tragic and untimely death of Anna to a television network.
The only difference is that there was no judge (aside from the public in general) to decide whether what he was saying was true or not. But yesterday was a very important day for the man who is suspected of having supplied Daniel Smith (Anna's son - passed away last year, at 20) with methadone, a thing that he allegedly also did for Smith. So, in preparation for the big fight (for the infant Danni Hope and the money she will inherit sooner or later), Stern brought in the big guns: he cried, he moaned and he bitched about everything, just to get the judge 'feel' him.
Basically, what went down in court can be summarized as follows: Stern stated that Anna wanted to be buried in The Bahamas (then changed his mind and said that she wanted to be put to rest next to Marilyn Monroe, her idol), that he never expected her to die, that she was the one true love of his life (only to add, a couple of minutes later that, for her, her true love had been her late billionaire, 90-year-old husband Marshall), that he never offered her or Daniel drugs and that he is the father of Danni. In short, he denied all the rumors in the press (and the suspicions of the police) that say the contrary.
At one point, Stern even became outraged that Larry Birkhead (the man who also claims he is the father of the baby and with most chances to win the paternity case), who was sitting close to him whispered to him that he is the real killer of Anna. After the judge warned all the parties present that they must not throw accusations at each other without proper arguments, Stern took to crying as the best way to show just how 'devastated' he was by the loss.
Finally, Stern was allowed to go back to the Bahamas, granted he flies back for the next hearing, when Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur will testify and probably ask to be given the custody of the child. Larry Birkhead is likely to have his say sometime next week. We'll keep you posted with more details on the case.
