Figure skater Johnny Weir has always had a unique taste in fashion. Since coming out officially, he’s not holding back anything in terms of fashion, especially when it comes to including fur in his outfits – which is why he has a few words for PETA.

It’s well known that the group doesn’t look with kind eyes on celebrities who choose to wear fur in public, especially if they’re a genuine paparazzi magnet, as Weir obviously is.

However, the figure skater would want to tell People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals that they might also consider allowing for another man’s point of view. In this case, his.

E! Online caught up with the star during New York Fashion Week and, since he was wearing a fabulous fur-trimmed coat (picture attached to the article), it asked him of whether he did not fear PETA’s reaction to it.

“Today I’m wearing Ekatarina, one of the oldest Russian furriers. I’m all about the fur,” Weir gushed.

As for what his message to PETA would be, the figure skater says, “Don’t be terrorists, let us live our lives.”

The group even had several initiatives when, during various Fashion Week events, it had members patrol the streets with cans of paint which they would then throw on stars wearing fur coats.

Nevertheless, that’s not the worst thing that can happen with fur activists, as Weir can attest. He was personally threatened and harassed by another group, also because of his love of fur.

“I literally had a price put on my head before the Olympics. I had to go to the Olympics with the FBI because somebody wanted to kill me [over] fur. It wasn’t PETA but someone different,” he says in the same interview.

Johnny Weir’s take on wearing fur may not be to everyone’s liking, but his next piece of advice on which the guiding fashion principle should be for everyone most certainly will be.

“Never be afraid and know your body,” he says.
