Fable creator and boss of Microsoft European Game Studios, Peter Molyneux, has expressed his thoughts on the current state of the gaming industry, criticizing the fact that most of current titles look and feel pretty much the same.

Molyneux became famous for his quirky attitude and, even if his Fable series went through several ups and downs, is still one of the most respected game designers out there.

He recently shared his thoughts about the industry with Xbox World 360 magazine, via CVG, and revealed that, at least in his own eyes, the current crop of modern games look pretty much the same, and it's getting quite boring.

"I love new ideas and innovation. I'm trying to think of a more diplomatic way of saying this, but I'm just a little bit bored of doing things the same way in games. While I love all the drama of modern games there is this sameness about it.

" They're essentially the same - one's got a green palette, one's got a gray palette; you're shooting and ducking and diving and it just seems almost on the point of being a little bit like Hollywood where they have got into this rut with their action films. I'm not saying we've quite got that yet but we're certainly getting towards that."

Molyneux believes that developers and publishers should take more gambles while creating new experiences, as well as blend new ideas and control mechanics including Microsoft's own Kinect sensor.

"I think mixing things up with emotional gameplay and mixing things up with the way you play and the feeling of connections and Kinect... it feels a bit more refreshing for me. But I'm obviously going to answer like that because I work in computer games."

Molyneux himself is following this advice, as his newest project, Fable: The Journey, is a new take on his franchise, using only the Kinect and allowing gamers to cast spells through their own gestures.
