The psychological war between Germany and Argentina already started to make waves before their quarterfinal later today. Considered to be a true final of the competition, the match between the two powerful teams will be the perfect occasion for the Argentinean players to take their revenge after losing the Coppa del Mondo in 1990 against the same European side. If everybody agreed that Germany received a little help from the referees that day, it seems that the tonight's clash will also be refereed by a "questionable" whistler.
Lubos Michel, the man who helped Brazil get into the quarterfinals, is the one who will
referee the match. Well, maybe "helped Brazil" is a little harsh, but it is more than obvious that some of his decisions were pro-Brazilian. Still, tonight, he will have to do a great job, since the two teams are far more powerful then Ghana. Even if the Germans have the advantage of being tall, the Argentineans are faster and more skilful.
One of Argentina's most dangerous players, Carlos Tevez, started a real tirade over the German team. After reaching the first World Cup quarterfinal in his career - it could be his last - Tevez managed to infuriate the German media. The reason? "If the game will be tied, and both teams will have to go through the penalty kicks lottery, I will aim for Lehmann's head. Either the ball will go in, or it would take his head off", said Tevez before the game.
That's all the German media needed. After stating that the Argetinean's words were totally lacking common sense and fair play, the journalists found the solution for Diego Maradona to still smile at the end of the game: "You better become a German fan. The only tie-shirt you'll be flying around will be the German one and not Argentina's". As always in the tournament, Maradona will be present in the stands at his favorites' game.
As for the cheering supporters, the German fans will invade the Berlin Arena - nobody expected it any different. While Germany will have almost 60.000 people cheering for them, the Argentinean players will hear only 10.000 of their fans inside the arena. The clash is announcing to be a very tactical one, since both coaches play a great defense. Argentina - Germany will start at 17.00 CET.
