FIFA has taken the first measures towards Arsenal. Not more than a week ago, rumors have appeared in the media concerning a future scandal in European football. In other words, this year's finalist in the UEFA Champions League was accused of "buying off" Belgium's first division club Beveren. According to the latest news from British TV channel BBC2, Arsenal would have bought the right to decide inside Beveren's board of directors in exchange for the sum of 1,5 million Euros.
As far as this little scandal is concerned, the International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) has issued a letter this morning, in which the English officials at the FA (Football Association) are asked to look into it and carry further investigations.
"We kindly ask you to carry out an investigation into the relevant relationship between your affiliated club, Arsenal, and Beveren. We would be grateful to be updated on the developments and informed of the findings as soon as possible. We ask you to carry out an investigation to ensure proper clarification of the issue", said the FIFA statement.
Arsenal admitted the fact that they have indirectly issued some payments towards Beveren. And here's how: Arsenal says that they loaned this sum of money to a club official in Beveren. However, it was a personal action for that official to use the money in order to help his team financially. So, as a consequence of that, Arsenal is not to blame for the way that official chose to spend that money. Especially since Arsenal's direct payment towards Beveren cannot be proven in official paperwork.
Still, what surprises us the most is the fact that, almost at the same time that Arsenal have loaned the money to that Beveren official, Emanuel Eboue moved from the Belgian club to Highbury. The FA officials will answer this FIFA letter in the next few days.
