EA Sports and Sony have unveiled some fresh details about FIFA Football (FIFA Soccer in America) for the PlayStation Vita handheld platform, as well as a fresh video that shows off the unique touch-sensitive features of the upcoming simulator.

The PS Vita is set to deliver a next generation handheld gaming experience, at least according to Sony, and EA is there to support it on its first day of global availability in February with FIFA Football.

We’ve already seen quite a few screenshots as well as heard plenty of details about the simulator which is set to grace the small device early next year.

Now, EA and Sony have released new information about the use of the front touchscreen and the rear touch panel in the game, which will be used to deliver precise passes as well as help players when executing free kicks.

“Touch Screen Shooting delivers pin-point accuracy and removes that element of “hit and hope” from shooting. As well, Touch Screen Passing opens up the field of play for more creative, precision passing, giving players the ability to distribute the ball and make decisive passes like never before. Finally, Touch Screen Free Kick Control enables players to swipe a finger to aim and curl the shot around the wall,” said Matt Prior, producer for FIFA Football on the PS Vita.

The developer did mention, however, that these options aren’t mandatory, saying that, “These Touch Screen features are optional, so you can use the traditional controls just like you’re playing FIFA on your PlayStation, but they definitely add an big element of fun and creativity to the gameplay experience.”

FIFA Football for the PlayStation Vita is a day-one release for the handheld platform, arriving on February 21 alongside the device. Until then, you can check out a video of its touch-based features below.
