The team at EA Sports in charge of FIFA 15 announces that it is taking the Ultimate Team feature of the game and the Football Club element down for maintenance and that gamers will only be able to access them again starting at 10 AM Greenwich Mean Time.

The official announcement says that gamers might also be affected when they try to log into the game on the PC, the PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One, but the issues will be temporary.

The company adds, “During this time, FIFA Ultimate Team, the Web App, Mobile companion app, and EA SPORTS Football Club will be offline. Online service for all other game modes will be unaffected.”

EA Sports says that it will announce on its social media channels whether the downtime for FIFA 15 will be extended and whether any problems arise during the process.

The studio has not offered any details on the reasons for the maintenance period and is not yet willing to say what changes it is making to the infrastructure of the football simulation.

The community has been speculating that the more frequent than normal downtime periods for Ultimate Team mean that the development team is either planning to introduce some major new content soon or is simply aiming to make the entire service more secure.

Recently, the company has once again warned lovers of the mode to make sure that they are not fooled by a number of fake websites and Twitter accounts that aim to get their personal data and use them for nefarious purposes.

FIFA 15 delivers plenty of holiday cheer with special events

At the moment, EA Sports is offering a special Holiday Edition of FIFA 15 in digital stores, which gives gamers access to some extra content, including more currency to spend as they see fit and more celebrations to use after they score.

At the same time, Lionel Messi, arguably the best player in the world, is available in Ultimate Team under a loan contract, which means that he can power the performances of any new team for a few matches, just as gamers get a better understanding of how the experience works.

EA Sports is also running some special events in order to celebrate Christmas and gamers were recently offered a look at the Ultimate Team Legends line-up created by Eden Hazard, the current playmaker of Chelsea, the leaders of the Premier League.

UPDATE: EA Sports says that it is forced to extend the maintenance but does not offer any info on when it might be completed.
