Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is still going strong

The UK charts are out, once again a testament to FIFA 15's insane popularity, topping the charts since its release at the end of September.

EA Sports' annual franchise takes the top spot once again, for the third time in a row, showing that the United Kingdom loves its football like no other country out there.

The Creative Assembly's highly anticipated first-person horror game, Alien: Isolation, didn't manage to snag the crown off FIFA 15's head, but it entered the chart in second place, which is a pretty impressive feat, given its competition.

The title is probably the first game that Alien fans can truly resonate with, as instead of taking the usual route of following in the footsteps of James Cameron's "Aliens," an action-packed movie, it takes its inspiration from Ridley Scott's original "Alien," the 1979 horror film that started the franchise and made H. R. Giger's monster famous.

No surprises for the second week of October

Monolith's Tolkien-inspired action-adventure title Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor fell to third from last week's second place, showing that people are still highly interested in going about an open world eviscerating orcs and foiling the Dark Lord's evil plans.

Forza Horizon 2, Playground Games's Xbox 360 and Xbox One exclusive open-world racing video game, is down to fourth place, a mere two weeks after release, followed by rival Driveclub, Evolution Studios' belated PlayStation 4 exclusive racer.

At position number six we find Bungie's sci-fi first-person shooter Destiny, still a strong presence in the charts after more than a month since release, demonstrating that more and more people want to finish the Vault of Glass.

The top is closed off by Skylanders Trap Team and NBA 2K15, making a decent debut, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, and Minecraft: PlayStation Edition.

Beyond the top 10

Minecraft: Xbox Edition is pretty close on its brethren's tracks, falling just short of making the top 10.

Square Enix's remastered Sleeping Dogs : Definitive Edition managed to make its debut at spot number 13, in spite of essentially being a two-year-old game, which is pretty good news for fans of United Front Games' creation waiting for Triad Wars, the massively multiplayer online follow-up to the Hong Kong-based action-adventure thriller.

The information comes from retail tracker Chart-Track, whose official figures do not account for download sales, so bear that in mind while looking at the top.

The general dynamic isn't all that surprising, as we're basically witnessing the mainstays and last week's releases being pushed down by the new entries, still unable to dethrone FIFA 15. Next week perhaps.
