The development team at EA Sports announces that the Ultimate Team mode for its blockbuster FIFA 14 experience is at the moment down for a rather long maintenance period, which is expected to finish around 12:30 Greenwich Mean Time.

The studio has announced that the experience is down via Twitter and says that there’s a chance that the period will take a little longer than initially thought, with more announcements set to come once the service is back on.

The web app associated with Ultimate Team, the Football Club, and the mobile app are also in maintenance, but all other game modes are up and running, which means dedicated players can easily go online and play rivals or friends in regular matches.

EA Sports is not saying exactly what elements of the Ultimate Team experience are being updated at the moment.

Recently, a major set of transfers for all included clubs was implemented in order to bring the game up to date after the real world summer activity that followed the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

The Ultimate Team mode remains very popular, and EA Sports says that it plans to support it until the next title in the series is launched.

FIFA 15 will arrive in late September and will be offered with an improved Ignite engine on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

UPDATE: EA Sports announces that as of 14 GMT Ultimate Team for FIFA 14 is again up and running on all platforms.
