Second-screen experiences, like the ones delivered by the Nintendo Wii U’s GamePad or the upcoming Xbox 360 SmartGlass tech, could lead to some interesting new features for games in the FIFA franchise, at least according to FIFA 13 Producer David Rutter.

FIFA 13 is set to offer all sorts of impressive features, chief among which being a more error-prone artificial intelligence system that should create more memorable matches.

While the upcoming game is close to completion, its Producer, David Rutter, is looking towards the future and said that the so-called second-screen experiences, where players interact not just with the TV or monitor but also with other devices, could lead to some interesting things.

While Rutter was reticent to actually confirm anything, he said that things like the Wii U GamePad or the Xbox SmartGlass could enrich the core FIFA experience.

"It's pretty exciting actually," the producer told CVG. "I've been talking to a bunch of the guys about the games that they're working on here, and about what they want to do with Wii U or with SmartGlass and stuff like that.”

“And if you look at it from a different perspective, I'm not going to tell you exactly what because it's kind of competitive advantage, I think there were a few kind of 'wow, that's a pretty cool way of looking at it' moments, so that idea of a second screen, I think it has some really, really big positives".

While Rutter hasn’t talked about the possibility of seeing FIFA 13 on the Wii U, the producer is still quite excited about the console’s GamePad, which should allow for some interesting features to be incorporated in the soccer simulator.

"If you look at FIFA as a game, with Kinect we've got the ability to do tactical changes on the fly with our voices, maybe that's something you could do with that, or maybe you could go a different route, something like Dead Space or any of the other games we're making, there's some really cool things you can do with it."

FIFA 13 is set to arrive on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms on September 28.
