Video game publisher Electronic Arts has announced that its recent FIFA 12 launch has managed to break all previous records for a sport simulation title, selling 3.2 million copies across all platforms all over the world during the first seven day that it was on shelves.

The company says that this is a preliminary estimate and that the sales figures could be even better for the EA Sports made game.

Electronic Arts says that this is a new record for a sports based video game and that it also constitutes the biggest video game launch of 2011 up until now.

The figures posted by FIFA 12 are about 23 percent bigger than those shown by the previous year's version.

The game managed to perform better than Madden NFL 12, which is an American football simulation, which shows the increased global presence of European football.

FIFA 12 delivered quite a few advances for the series, the biggest being the Player Impact Engine, a new technology which allows all interactions between players, the pitch and the ball to be determined using actual physics instead of canned animations.

The game also delivers new options for the attack and defense phases of the game and the usual rooster updates and the graphics and presentation have also received a make-over.

When it comes to the best selling game of 2011, FIFA 12 will probably have to give up its crown when the two major first person shooters of the fall season, Battlefield 3 from DICE and Electronic Arts and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 from Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard are lauched.

But the strong performance of FIFA 12, especially when compared to the previous game in the franchise, means that EA Sports will continue to use the annual launch schedule rather than switching to a set of digitally distributed updates.
