Italy will join France in holding 2 GPs in Formula One, starting next season. Despite FIA's decision to rule out the European and San Marino GPs a few weeks ago, a new meeting between the governing body and representatives of all the teams and manufacturers unanimously decided the Imola race should be included in next season's calendar.

"For us it is very important that Imola remains",
said one of the most important officials inside the Great Circle, Luca di Montezemolo. The Ferrari president had every interest to keep Imola inside the 2007 calendar, since San Marino is the main practice circuit for the Italian team.

A few weeks ago, the FIA officials decided that Germany and Italy should have only one GP inside Formula One, due to security measures. Moreover, there were plenty of other new and exciting circuits that were waiting in line for the go-ahead by FIA. And, considering that both Nurburgring and Imola were lacking important renovations in pits and paddock, FIA wanted a change.

After 19 races in 2005 and 18 this season, the calendar would have seen only 17 races get under way next year. Still, with Imola making its comeback yesterday, the Great Circle will stay on 18 at least for one more season.

Of course, Imola will now have to make a lot of changes in terms of paddock renovation and accommodation, but that will certainly not be a problem for Montezemolo. So that nothing unexpected would appear along the way, the Ferrari president met with Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone and Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi to agree on the new terms.
