The FFmpeg 2.2.2 package, a complete solution to record, convert, and stream audio and video, is now available for download and features a number of updates for some of its packages.

FFmpeg 2.2 is the latest major release, and it was launched only a short while ago. It comes with a lot of new features, such as HNM version 4 demuxer and video decoder, Live HDS muxer, a complete Voxware MetaSound decoder, WebP encoding via libwebp, VP8 in Ogg demuxing, libx265 encoder, and more.

The current FFMpeg version, which has been dubbed “Muybridge,” is just a maintenance build, which means that users will only get a few fixes and some updates for various packages.

“It is the latest stable FFmpeg release from the 2.2 release branch, which was cut from master on 2014-03-01. Amongst lots of other changes, it includes all changes from ffmpeg-mt, libav master of 2014-03-01, libav 10 as of 2014-05-05,” reads the official announcement,

FFmpeg is the leading multimedia framework able to decode, encode, transcode, mux, demux, stream, filter, and play pretty much any media that humans and machines have created.

A complete list of updates, features, and other fixes can be found in the official announcement. You can download FFmpeg 2.2.2 right now from Softpedia.
